About Us

Our Mission Statement

Orcas Senior Center (OSC) engages the community to provide services, advocacy, and support so that people can live and age well on Orcas Island.

Who We Are

More than half the population on Orcas Island is over the age of 55. An aging community, yes, but incredibly active and the most well-educated population in the state of Washington.

Orcas Senior Center supports this community through a variety of opportunities, programs, shared meals, and social and educational events; the promotion of “sound mind, sound body”; and a commitment to the community at large.

Our Vision

In 2025, we envision OSC serving as a community convener and leader in assisting people to age well on Orcas by promoting prolonged independence and improved quality of life. Its governance is clear and direct; policies and procedures are in place, fostering clarity and accountability. The Orcas Senior Center Board of Directors has the range of expertise, talent, and skills necessary to set effective policy and establish committees to achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

What We Do

From online yoga classes to foot care, technology briefings to writing and art classes, and lectures with topics from American history to zoology, the programs and services available through Orcas Senior Center challenge, educate, and inform.

What’s Happening: There’s always lots going on here on Orcas Island, and OSC is no exception. Check out our activities calendar and know when lunch is served, when the next class begins, or the next speaker presents. Boredom has no home at Orcas Senior Center!

Be in the Know: How well do you know what’s happening that affects the senior population on Orcas? In Washington State? The country? If you come across a topic, a web site. or an article of interest to the senior community at large, please feel free to suggest it to us.

When you need something more: From time to time, we all need a helping hand, such as a ride to a medical appointment or someone to help with the housework. Whatever it is, we’ll help hook you up with the assistance you require. At least once a week, we gather for a nutritious meal and camaraderie at OSC. Meals and Wheels and More ensures that islanders who cannot leave their home also benefit from a nutritious meal. Volunteers with our Companion Services program brighten the days of those in our community who are homebound with one-on-one companionship. Our Home Maintenance & Repair pilot program helps seniors and adults with disabilities with simple home repairs and improvements that allow them to stay in their homes as they age.

How are we doing? As hard as we try, no one’s perfect. If you have a suggestion on how we can improve, please let us know. Remember, you get more bees with honey than vinegar.

Join Us! Make no mistake – our friends are the heart and soul of Orcas Senior Center and we simply could not do what we do without them. Please consider joining us and help maintain this vibrant corner of the state!
