Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Exchange and Orcas Recycling Center
Join us on Friday, September 11, at 9:30 a.m. for a fun and informative behind-the-scenes tour of the Exchange and Orcas Recycling Center. Learn how recycling works on Orcas Island with an engaging presentation at the recycling wall, where staff will share tips and best practices to help you recycle more effectively.
The tour will continue to the baler building and the “Big Blue” glass crusher. Since its installation, Big Blue has crushed hundreds of tons of glass, saving thousands of dollars in shipping costs. Crushed glass is used in art projects, landscaping, and has even been tested to meet Washington State Department of Transportation standards for a variety of construction applications. We’ll wrap up at the Exchange, where you’ll have time to browse the store and explore the unique upstairs loft.
