Our February Meeting of the Minds will be “A Brief History of Navigation”, by Norm Petersen.
Over many years of sailing, voyaging, teaching sailing, and navigating, Captain Norm Petersen has been keenly interested in the subtleties of navigational processes. These subtleties are extremely sensitive to the navigational environment within which they exist. This fact makes the development of an accurate, and reliable worldwide navigation system extremely difficult. Yet here we are today with just such a powerful tool, deeply rooted in history, at our fingertips. The presentation is an attempt to trace the stormy historical path that has led us to this remarkable outcome that is so essential to our present state of equilibrium as a human species.
