Transportation/Trips

Why drive if you don't need to?  It costs about $2,000 a year to keep up a car, if you count insurance, gas, and repairs.  You can hire a lot of immediate-need  taxi time for $500, and the Senior Center can help you with anything you can plan.

For instance, do you need a ride to Senior Lunch (Nutrition) and shopping/mail pickup?  Can we help you with transportation to medical appointments, either on or off the island? Or would you like to go on one of our regularly-scheduled mainland mall or recreational trips?  Check the Activities Calendar, then call  Jo Anne, 2677,  to reserve; we  also welcome suggestions for trips.

On lunch days, our volunteers provide van transportation ($1. round trip).  They also stop, after lunch, at the post office, store, and for some individual needs such as picking up a prescription at the pharmacy.

We offer mainland transportation for medical appointments ($12-$17. round trip).  Reserve as early as possible, through  Jo Anne.  Please try to schedule off-island medical trips on Wednesdays and Thursdays as much as possible.  If those days are not available with your medical practitioner, we will do all we can to meet your transportation needs.

Mainland shopping trips are on the third Thursdays; reservations are needed for these and for recreational trips about once a month.  Check with  Jo Anne. Suggested donation for these trips: $15-20.
